Our Rooms

Our Discoverers and Adventurers rooms take children from birth to 2 years. We have highly experienced staff whose priority is to mirror the home routine of each baby as closely as possible. Nappies, wipes and cow’s milk are included in our fees, however our parents are asked to supply formula or breast milk to ensure continuity between home and nursery. Our rooms are a comforting, spacious areas with a quiet and sleeping area where your child can go to sleep in one of our small individual beds or mats. We take babies out for in our garden or for walks every day to ensure babies get as much fresh air as possible.
We provide a variety of stimulating activities in order to promote your child’s all-round development. We are a breast feeding friendly nursery, with staff trained in breast milk storage, and a room where you can take your baby in peace to feed them whenever necessary.

Your child’s progress into our Explorers Room will happen after a discussion with yourself around the time your child turns 2. Here we begin to adopt a more challenging and varied approach to the day. Your child will be introduced to activities such as painting, sand modelling and water play. There will also be a more prominent focus on physical and musical activity, giving children creative scope to explore what they want, helping them to develop skills and individuality.

Messy play allows children to express their creativity, encourages children to explore and develop their senses, and can even help develop language skills. We will also introduce early numeracy and literacy skills and activities designed to develop your child’s communication skills.

Holyrood Nursery Salford is recognised as a pre-school centre by the Education department. In the Pre-School Room children will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (Staff Ratio 1:8). Your child will progress to the Pre-School Room at around 3 years old. We pride ourselves on ensuring that when children leave the nursery to move on to school they do so confidently and independently, whilst taking with them the enjoyment of learning and a pride in their achievements. We would strive for your child to be able to have the following skills when leaving the nursery: recognising and writing their own name, demonstrating good observational skills, showing preliminary reading skills, able to confidently control a pencil, showing creative skills and knowledge of numbers.
At the end of each year the children take part in a graduation ceremony where they are presented with their leaving certificates and there is always a special party to mark the end of their time at Holyrood!

We love to get outside at Holyrood Salford! We have a large outdoor play area which provides children with opportunities to get fresh air and have fun in a safe and secure environment. Our outdoor areas feature a large covered sand pit, a climbing frame and lots more fun toys and activities which our children love. Our main outdoor area is split into large grassed and tarmacked areas where children of all ages have opportunities to play on our bikes and trikes.
As well as access to our fabulous outdoor play areas, children of all ages enjoy regular walks in the local area. Our youngest children are often seen out in our double buggies enjoying the fresh air, sights and sounds of the local community. We use Walkodile Child Safety Systems and high visibility vests to keep children safe when out on trips away from the nursery.

Your child’s progress into our Tweenies Room will happen after a discussion with yourself around the time your baby turns 18 months old. Here we begin to adopt a more challenging and varied approach to the day. Your child will be introduced to activities such as painting, sand modelling and water play. There will also be a more prominent focus on physical and musical activity, giving children creative scope to explore what they want, helping them to develop skills and individuality.

Children usually move to our Toddler Room once they turn 2 years old, after discussions with yourself. Our Toddler Room provides a structured day with a much greater choice of learning opportunities including arts and crafts, construction activities, table top games and much more. Messy play allows children to express their creativity, encourages children to explore and develop their senses, and can even help develop language skills. We will also introduce early numeracy and literacy skills and activities designed to develop your child’s communication skills. Your child’s day is recorded for you to take home so you will know what they have been learning at Holyrood.

Dear families,

We are pleased to share with you our exciting plans for the future of our nurseries. Bertram Nursery Group has provided a trusted, caring and quality service to thousands of families over two decades.  That isn’t changing, but we want to grow and develop our services, facilities and, most of all, our teams who make our nurseries and kindergartens such inspiring places for children.

That’s why we’re changing our name to Thrive Childcare and Education, because that’s at the heart of what we’re about – helping our children, staff and communities to thrive.

While changing our company name and the names of some of our nurseries is the next step of our development journey, we’ll still have the same dedicated teams caring for your children.

The Covid-19 pandemic has reinforced our belief that we need to adapt and invest in a constantly changing world to continue providing the service that parents and children need, tailored to the communities we support across Scotland and North West England.

Since our foundation, we have acquired some fantastic groups of nurseries and many high-quality independent nurseries. Now we are uniting them under four Thrive groupings:

  • Happitots nurseries will extend beyond Glasgow and South Lanarkshire to provide a network of affordable, flexible nurseries across Scotland.
  • Holyrood nurseries will extend more widely across our network of affordable nurseries in North West England, recognising parents’ and community needs.
  • Corner House nurseries will now extend from Edinburgh to operate more widely across Scotland, providing an extensive range of exciting, extracurricular activities and large outdoor areas.
  • Nature Kindergartens, our new sub-group, will reflect our vision to develop children’s outdoor learning. We plan to expand our Nature Kindergartens network in Scotland and England because we believe children’s learning is greatly enhanced in natural spaces.
